Homemade Healthy Dog Biscuits

Apple & Carrot Dog Treats

apple-and-carrotThese homemade dog biscuits are very easy to make, very healthy and make great puppy treats. The ingredients are all natural as you can choose what to put in or leave out, there are no artificial ingredients whatsoever. Your dog will love them and because there are only healthy natural ingredients you might take a liking to them yourself! But then that’s not fair on your dog ;-)

This is just one of many recipies available for making dog biscuits and I’ve made a variation on a recipie from a great book called “Doggie Biscuits” from Parragon Publishing. There are many more out there or a quick search online will bring up lots of choice for your special puppy.

Ingredients

  • 1 finely grated apple
  • 1 finely grated carrot
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of honey
  • 150 g (5 oz) coarse rolled oats
  • 150 g (5 oz) spelt flour

Mix all the ingredients together adding water or flour to make a dough consistency that you can easily shape.

Form the mixture into small round shapes and bake on parchment paper for 30 minutes in a preheated oven at gas mark 4 (180 c / 350 f). Turn  off the oven but leave the biscuits inside to dry out.

These tasty biscuits will last for around 3 weeks (if not eaten!) in an airtight container.
